Quick answerA mulmul cotton suit is a 3-piece unstitched set — cotton top and bottom with a soft, airy Mulmul (fine muslin) dupatta. At our Sanganer, Jaipur unit, hand block printed mulmul cotton suit sets are ₹600 per set wholesale, MOQ 15–20 sets per design, with a GST bill. They are our steadiest summer seller.

What is a mulmul cotton suit?

Mulmul (also written malmal or mul mul) is a very fine, loosely woven cotton. It feels soft from the first wear, lets air pass through and drapes lightly. In the suit trade, "mulmul cotton suit" usually means a set where the dupatta is Mulmul, while the top and bottom are a slightly firmer cotton that holds stitching well.

Hand block printing suits Mulmul very well. The thin fabric takes the dye deeply, so Sanganeri florals and Bagru motifs look bright on the dupatta and stay soft to touch.

  • Top: printed cotton, about 2.5 m
  • Bottom: cotton, about 2.5 m
  • Dupatta: printed Mulmul, about 2.25–2.5 m

A simple margin example for boutiques

This is an example to help you plan, not a promise of price. Suppose you buy 20 sets of one design at ₹600 per set:

  • Fabric cost: 20 × ₹600 = ₹12,000 (plus shipping and GST as applicable).
  • If you sell each set unstitched at ₹999: sales of ₹19,980 — a gross difference of about ₹7,980 before your other costs.
  • If you sell stitched: add your tailoring cost per piece and price for the finished outfit.

Your actual price depends on your city, shop and customers. Many of our buyers price mulmul sets a little lower than chiffon and Kota Doria sets so that they have an easy entry-level option on the shelf.

Why mulmul suit sets sell so well

  • Comfort in heat. In April–June, buyers ask for "soft cotton" and "light dupatta" first. Mulmul answers both.
  • Easy price point. At ₹600 per set wholesale, it leaves room for your margin and still sits in the price range most customers are happy to pay.
  • Works for every age. Light Sanganeri florals for younger buyers, deeper Bagru and Dabu colours for older buyers.
  • Repeat buying. Customers who like one mulmul set usually come back for another colour.

How to check mulmul suit quality before you buy

  1. Hold the dupatta to light. Mulmul should be fine and even, without thick slubs or holes.
  2. Check the back. Hand block colour shows through on the reverse side; screen print usually does not. Our guide: genuine block print vs screen print.
  3. Measure each piece. Confirm top, bottom and dupatta lengths so your customer's tailor has enough fabric.
  4. Ask about washing. Natural-dye prints need a gentle first wash; see our washing guide to share with customers.

When to order mulmul suits

Demand starts rising in March and peaks from April to June. Place your order 4–6 weeks before your peak, so the stock reaches you with time for photos and posting. Mulmul sets also sell in the monsoon in hot and humid regions. For a full season plan, see our suit material buying calendar.
